You can disconnect the battery to get rid of the code, it doesn't fix the problem. Try to fix the problem then get rid of the code if it comes back it wasn't fixed right

Engine light comes on. Registers a code for cat converter and crank shaft censor A malfunction. Car does not stay on. Had a tuneup done and fuel injection cleaning done.

i just put a crankshaft postion sensor in my 07 pacifica. That sensor can make your car not start too!! it's only 12 + dallors at advance auto ..easy fix too!

Yes you should start with replacing the crank shaft position sensor first.

I have a 2005 chrysler pacifica has 60,000 km on new engine we just put in it. The engine went at 120,000 km we are not sure as to why. The day before the engine went the I could here fans kicking shortly after driving. After we installed the new engine the upper rad hose collapsed the mechanic purchased a new rad hose and rad cap and that solved the problem. I have only had the new engine in for a week or so and today the engine light came back on?
When the mechanic hook up the car it read thermostat regulator? could this be what occured in the other engine?

What is the exact code did it gave you?

It is hard to say. You may have an air bubble in the system. try to fill the system with the heat on all the way hot , the engine running and the radiator cap off. Allow it to reach operating temperature and top it off. Replace cap and drive it some. Let it cool off and re-check level. Look for evidence of foam as this is a sign of air in the system. If the sensor is from the other car it could be the same issue. The codes should have been cleared, if your mechanic cleard the codes. if the battery was removed generally codes will clear but he should have cleared them with the reader and if it was fom other engine it will not return.

Thank you for your response, I will have to check with my mechanic the exact code. I know it is not the sensor from the original engine. I drove the car for about a week on the new engine before the engine light came on. The mechanic also checked for and air lock?
It's a bit of a worry after I have done alot of research on the 2005 and seem to see alot of people with this problem.

If it is a, "swap" problem. Sometime you can run a jumper that will give you a short morse code by flashing the CEL lamp. However I think it has to be a Pre-OBDII which is up the 1995. It would allow you to at least turn it off and then hold it in another switch that is momentary to get the short code. But I am assuming your OBDII since it is a 2005. Don't know if there is a way to do it on OBDII, but if it is a code that is a problem in the elctronics, there is usually a fix that will stop the code like using the sensor out of the other engine that might be the reason for the code. If the sensor you have in now just happens to be outside the voltage window of the ECU whether there is a problem or not it will throw the light even if everything is okay. The sensor that is meant for the voltage window that goes with the other motor might fix the issue if you get the sensor from that motor. You might try an enthuisasts forum to see because that is the best place to find fixes for swap issues.

We turned off the engine light and it came back on about two weeks later the code it is reading is 128 Coolant thermostat regulating below temperature? any ideas?

I just purchased this vehicle one week ago and it is in excellent condition for the mileage of 140702. No leaks, shifts smothly while driving and no noises. Engine looks to be in great condition. Two days ago on my dashboard indicator started showing gascap. Gascap was replaced by dealer but the indicator never went off. Today the engine light came on. Should this be a big concern as I don't know anything about these vehicles. I've read a lot of horror stories on the web and would like to get more info from an expert. I do plan on taking the vehicle to the dealer on monday which they said they will have it diagnosed. But in the mean time what should I do. Thanks.

Test the thermostat and the coolant temperature sensor-

Have the vehicle scanned for codes. Most auto parts suppliers will do this for free. Provide those codes to me so I can give you more information as to why the check engine light is on. Anything that can increase emissions will trigger the check engine light to come on.
You may have leak in the fuel vapor management system (raw fuel vapors are in a sealed system and not vented out side of the fuel tank) causing the check engine light and check gas cap.

It's the thermostat or the wiring going to it

About 2 weeks ago car started hesitating intermittantly, slower acceleration going uphill. The check engine light has come off and on during this time. Very recently the check engine light has come on and stayed on. Car is now very sluggish going uphill. Depending on the incline and length of hill car speed can be as low as 20 mph. Even with the cruise control set, the pedal will be pushed to the floor and car will continue to decelerate. RPM's go higher and there is a smell almost like sulphur. However, when driving on a flat surface car seems to drive normally, acceleration is normal, speed is normal.

There are many possibilities. You need to have the codes read. This is the first step. You can have this done for free at any auto parts store.

Sounds like the catalytic converter is bad and don't drive it until it's checked out

my check engine light is on and wont go off. i was told small leak i changed the gas cap and reset the codes and the light came back on what can i do?

How does it drive? Does it idle rough? What about the fuel economy, has it gone down lately? You might need your fuel lines checked to make sure that there are no tiny holes that could cause leaks. Car electronic systems have a very low tolerance to even the most minuscule fuel vapor leak. I believe this is for "environmental reasons".

When you have a leak like this it's not a fuel leak, you might have a leak in the emission system. Take it to a shop to pull the codes and do a smoke test of all your lines. Give us the code next time and we can help with the diagnosis
