Why disconnect the battery? Usually with a tune-up, you don't have to disconnect the battery. I'm not sure what electrical connections, you are talking about?

I recently replaced my plugs, wires, air filter and got an oil change before I took a trip to San Antonio. It ran awesome after the tune-up and on the way to S.A. Later that night, I was driving on the highway and lost most all acceleration and it was hard to get the car to accelerate past 60. I immediately exited and pulled into a parking lot; where I noticed the car lagged from 10 mph to 20 mph. Now when I hit the gas it seems to not want to accelerate and then BOOM it takes off and repeats the cycle. I double checked all the spark plugs and wires and everything is in order and looks right. My next step is to change the 02 sensor. Am I correct about this? Or possibly something different?

I question the O2 sensor. Has the check engine light come on? Also, check the catylatic converter to make sure it isn't starting to plug or has come loose inside.

Thanks for the response.O2 was not the answer. We ended up taking it to a mechanic and found that it was indeed the cat. converter. It was plugged up pretty bad. The check engine light came on and turned off.

engine sounds up and down : when i turn it on the engine doesnt sound like one tune ,,the sound is up and down and even when i drive or stop at stop sign i can the sound is waxing and waning

If the idle is going up and down, check for vacuum leaks and check the idle air control valve (IAC). It is located on the throttle body and is responsible for maintaining a steady idle.

How can I tell if my car needs a tune up. The engine doesn't sound smooth running, actually is sounds like it's clunkly. If that's a word!

well with 96,000 miles on it, you probably most likely need a tune up if it has not had one in the last couple of years
