The Drivers information center is not showing what gear the car is in. Does not matter if in Park or drive the box around the letter is not lite up. All other information on the dashboard is showing.

Then the check engine light came on. The engine when driving seemed to be sluggish and having issues changing gears. Had the check engine light checked at autozone and was told it showed a misfire. changed spark plugs (which they suggested) and still have same issue.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Welcome to 2CarPros.

It sounds like the range sensor has gone bad. That is a sensor that tells the transmission and control module what gear the vehicle is in. If it has failed, the system doesn't see park or neutral. Therefore, it won't crank.

To confirm this is a problem, you really need to have the computer scanned for diagnostic trouble codes. Here is a quick video showing how it is done:

I realize most people don't own a scanner, but most parts stores will lend or rent one to you.

Also, under the hood in the power distribution box, there are two fuses you should check. Both are related to the transmission. I attached a picture for you indicating which fuses I am referring to.

Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know what happens.
