My check engine light indicates a "knock sensor" problem. Code P0325. How does this affect engine performance and economy? Will a defective sensor intermittently kill the engine?

--The KS is to retard the ignition timing when engine starts to detonates/ping. Yes it'll affect engine performance and fuel economy

Thanks for the quick reply. I assume this sensor is located on the engine somewhere, but exactly where?
