I was told the front left ABS wheel speed sensor needs to be replaced?

I noticed this morning when I took my kids to school that there is a humming sound coming from the front end when I brake and begin to release the brakes. I recently had my rear brake pads replaced. I was told the front left ABS wheel speed sensor needs to be replaced.
