when I started my car it started dinging and then a message on the drivers information center said service stabilitrak system. So what does this mean and what all is included in the system? The manual is kind of vague, just says if this message comes on the system wont work and to adjust your driving accordingly. what components make up this system and is there a technical safety bulletin issued for this problem? Is this a serious real problem or a fluke message?

Hello, I'm Danny.

This usually means an ABS- anti lock brake system code is stored in you vehicles computer. The first thing that needs to be done is to retrieve any ABS code that is stored. If you don't have access to a scanner or code reader most auto parts stores have a tool loaner program and can rent you one. Just be sure any code reader or scanner you use is ABS compatible. Here is a tutorial showing what is involved for checking fault codes:

After performing this get back to us with any code information and we can then properly diagnose. This seems like it might have something to do with a defective wheel sensor. Your vehicle also has a TSB- technical service bulletin having to do with stabilitrak so I've attached the information below. Hope this helps and thanks for using 2CarPros.
