Have it towed to the dealer and get out your wallet. When the battery is disconnected, run dead, or is defective, as it sounds like here, a whole bunch of things lock up on Volkswagens. "Got'cha". If you have an automatic transmission, it will very likely not come out of park. They are using the insane "throttle-by-wire", so even if the engine does start, it will only idle, regardless of what you do with the gas pedal. On some models the engine won't even start. The radio will be locked too. If YOU don't know the unlock code or if the selling dealer hasn't recorded it, it will never play again and can't even be used for parts.
To unlock the Engine Computer, the Volksawagen scanner is needed to relearn "minimum throttle". Most aftermarket scanners used by independent repair shops on multiple car brands will not work on Volkswagens, (Got'cha), and the Volkswagen equipment is prohibitively expensive so only the dealer has it. They didn't tell you that when you bought the car. Got'cha.
