Is it ok to use non-dealer parts for a timing belt-water pump-tensioner repair? (napa ect..)

I have an 06 Suzuki Reno, the timing belt broke at 60-70 mph. The dealer parts are twice the cost of Napa and other online outlets. Is it safe to go with non-dealer parts for this repair?

sure. they last just as long and are cheaper.

Napa is good. Advanced auto, Carquest and all the others are good too.

I wonder why the repair shop is strongly discouraging getting my own parts instead of them ordering from the dealer??? Thanks for your help!

they need to make money to stay in business. they also will stand behind the repair if they provide the parts. if you present the parts to a shop, you receive no warranty expressed or implied for the repair. that is, if the shop will install your parts.
