I have a Pontiac G6 2006. Was told need extensive repairs to make emission compliant. All exhaust from engine back, sensors and I do not know what else. Can I use a universal fit cat. converter? How much should this repair set me back?

What is the reason behind having all this replaced, is it equipped with an aftermarket, or modified system?

My nephew had the car before me. He wanted to add something to exhaust, I do not know what. The converter was cracked so he took it off. He welded something but welds not complete. Needs to have converter and sensors, and who knows what else, to be emission compliant. I am looking to find out if I can use a universal converter or not. Money is tight and I need to get this fixed soon. All the places I took it to are saying exhaust system replacement for $2000.00.

You can go with a universal converter, it should do just fine. It is hard to say how long it will function. What keeps the cost down is the amount of precious metals that go into a converter. Aftermarket ones usually go a couple years or so. If you can find lifetime warranty, that is an option, although you most likely have to pay labor when one is replaced.
