2006 Nissan Pathfinder stalled today in traffic. I tried to restart but it
either start sputtering and then shut off or just continue to crank. I towed it to a mechanic

They are trying to run Diagnostics on the vehicle.

Note that this vehicle was with them 2 weeks ago and they speculated and replaced 2 relays. THis was clearly not the issue. They also said that nothing was showing up in the diagnostic machine.

I believe that they are lost

This is typical when the crankshaft angle sensor fails it will not leave a code. This guide should help us fix it.

When you turn the key to the on position without cranking the engine over can you hear the fuel pump run in the tank for 5 seconds?

Please run down these guides and report back.

It did, but now it tries to turn over. What I did this morning was backed into a driveway that had a little downslope. The car was running while I unloaded it then it died. I started again successfully then it died a minute later. I tried starting again and pressed on gas pedal but no acceleration. I coasted it onto the street to get it level, it started but when I pressed on gas pedal it would die.

I need to know if you are loosing spark or fuel. These truck are very notorious for electrical ignition problems. When it dies do you have any way to see if u have fuel pressure or if your loosing spark?

Im going to need more info. I will need to know if it looses fuel or spark when it happenes. You will need to get a fuel pressure guage and drive the car with it on your windsheild so u can read it..

Won't start unless you use engine start, will start but won't run after ether runs out. when it used to start it was hard sometimes and when it ran it ran really lumpy for about half a minute then ran normally. but won't go at all now. will fire and run for 10 seconds then no go.

Hello,

It sounds like the engine maybe having issues. To be sure can you please shoot a quick video with your phone so we can hear the noise? that would be great. You can upload it here with your response. Please get the engine cranking over I can tell if the engine is any good from that.

This guide can help:

Please run down this guide and report back. We are interested to see what it is.

I put a new distributor, crankshaft sensor, fuel filter. checked the fuel pressure it was 42psi. It will start and run good then it will start missing and shut off. It won't start back. The crankshaft sensor code comes up.wait fifteen to twenty minutes and it will start and run good. Where is the crankshaft sensor located?

Good afternoon,

What is the exact code?

What kind of sensor did you use?

Was this the reason you did all this work?

The.codes are 0325 and 0335 the name brand was Holstein. the reason I did all the work was it quit running and no spar. I was going to replace ignition module, notice distributor had metal in the bottom and half the barrels were gone. so I changed the distributor. there are times it will start and run good and then shut off then it shows the code 0335 and after about fifteen minutes it starts back. the code 0325 is always on. will the knock sensor make the crankshaft sensor mes up?

Okay, forget the 325. Nissan had an issue with the code trees. The 325 would always set with any other code when there was nothing wrong with the knock sensor. Once the 335 is resolved, the 325 should not return.

description. You need to verify wiring to the harness. It could be a voltage supply to the sensor or it could be the gap. I would use an OEM sensor as a start.

Component Description
The crankshaft position sensor (OBD) is located on the trans-axle housing facing the gear teeth (cogs) of the flywheel or drive plate.

It detects the fluctuation of the engine revolution.

The sensor consists of a permanent magnet, core and coil. When the engine is running, the high and low parts of the teeth cause the gap with the sensor to change.

The changing gap causes the magnetic field near the sensor to change.

Due to the changing magnetic field, the voltage from the sensor changes.

The ECM receives the voltage signal and detects the fluctuation of the engine revolution.

This sensor is not used to control the engine system. It is used only for the on board diagnosis.
