I WAS RECENTLY REAR ENDED. I WAS AT A COMPLETE STOP GETTING READY TO MAKE A LEFT TURN WHEN I WAS REAR ENDED BY ANOTHER CAR THAT WAS GOING APPROXIMATELY 30-45 MPH. THE NEXT DAY MY BRAKE LIGHTS WENT OUT. A COUPLE HOURS LATER WHEN I WAS REVERSING OUT OF A PARKING SPOT, I WENT TO PUT THE CAR IN DRIVE AND WHEN I HIT THE GAS PEDAL IT JUST REVVED LIKE IT WAS IN NEUTRAL. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ALSO ON. WHEN I HOOKED THE OBD MACHINE UP TO MY CAR, IT GAVE ME A P0705 CODE. MY CAR SAT FOR A MONTH WHILE I WAITED FOR THE OTHER PERSONS INSURANCE TO CLAIM LIABILITY. WHEN THEY FINALLY DID, I PUT THE CAR IN THE BODY SHOP AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THE WIRING ON MY BRAKE LIGHTS WERE RIPPED LOOSE INSIDE. COULD ALL OF THIS BE FROM THE ACCIDENT?

The PO705 is for the transmission range sensor. Basically, the computer doesn't know what gear to shift into. Yes, this is most likely the result of the accident. If the car was going that fast, I wouldn't be surprised to find new issues when you get it back from the body shop and start using it.

How do I explain that to the insurance company? I don't think he mechanic I took it to knows what's goin on with my car. The insurance company refuses to pay for the rental since my car is still being looked at

You need to tell them the same thing you told me. Since the wiring in the rear was damaged and that is where you were hit, I don't think they will give you a hard time about that. Also, if the insurance company has a different place for you to take it, do it. That way, they have no argument.

Wow. I wish I had an answer for you. The only thing I can think of is to have another shop look at it and get their opinion. If I was there, I would try to help, but chances are, I'm a million miles away.
