Camshaft position sensor?

My wife has a 2006 mercedes c230 sport.It had two codes that were intermittent, they were po012 and po022 it was running fine with no misfires or anything noticable until she came to a stop at a light. It started running rough and almost wouldn't go. Codes now po304 305 and 306. I replaced the cam magnets and got rid of po012 & 022. What could cause all cylinders to missfire on one bank? I switched the cam sensor with the other bank and also the coils, I replaced the plugs, now I am at a loss. Could it be an oxygen sensor. If so up or down stream. Thank Jerry

This is common when the boot from the intake to the supercharger goes out. I just had this problem with my car. Roy

code p0010, a camshaft position actuator circuit/open bank 1. replaced camshaft position magnets. code p0010 returned, idling rough. replace camshaft position sensor(s) next? where are they located? I have also replaced thermostat (p0128), spark plugs and air filter. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

Hello,

I know what wrong with your car. My wife's car had the same problem. Check the boot between the intake manifold and the super charger in the back. Its tough to get to use a flash light. This is a thin boot that tears and causes that code even though it has nothing to do with what the code is. German ECM's are not real good about calling out the right system that is having a problem.

Thanks very much for your reply. I watched your video on maf sensor cleaning, replacement & I think it takes me out of my comfort zone. I'm trying to find an honest repair shop, avoiding the dealership like the plague. Your videos made thermostat, cam adjuster magnets, & spark plug replacement simple. At least I ruled out the cam adjuster magnets & did some necessary maintenance on my own. You armed me with enough knowledge to have an intelligent conversation with a repair shop. Thanks again!

Well, Mr Ken, bad news for me. Mine jumped timing. The teeth on the right adjuster are worn and or broken. The chain and the other adjuster looks good. Any special advice you can give, I'm in a bind on cash right now and I need this running to get to work and back? I really need to replace just that one adjuster and maybe come back in and do it all in a few months.

Bummer, yep you are going to need to replace the actuator. Here are diagrams and instructions that will help you get the job done. Check out the diagrams (below). Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.

Hi Ken, I want to make sure I'm replacing the correct part. Can you confirm that the boot that needs to be replaced is part 70 "Intake Muffler Boot" (Mercedes part #A2710920596) in this diagram:

Yep that's the part alright you will need to use this hose clamp tool to do the repair.

I have a 97' Mercedes c230, starts up fine but when I put it in Drive/Reverse, the car shakes a little and the idle changes. Last time I ran OBII on it(about 2 weeks ago), I got a camshaft sensor error. Any idea how to fix the problem?

If you have a code for that sensor, the computer is telling you there's something wrong with that circuit. So make sure to test the wires, connectors and sensor before assuming it's the sensor. Because too often techs replace a sensor because the computer says so, and they end up with the same problem anyway.

I have a 2006 Mercedes C230 that has engine codes P0017 and P0016 both were codes for bank one camshaft sensor. I changed the two sentences on the right side I also did the I also had to turn the crankshaft to 305 degrees so that I can see the writing on the two circles inside of the sensor holes once they were lined up I cracked the car drove up the street to see if the light will go off it didn’t gas light came on car shut off we’re not crank even though it was still enough gas in the car for it to crank. I’m going to try to put some gas in the car, but I was wondering is there was anything else that I should do for the check engine light to go off or is there something else that I have to do with the camshaft that I didn’t do. or is there any way to reset the computer? Also, was I supposed to change all four camshaft sensors? because I have four on the 2006 but only bank one was showing up, please help if you can.

Good morning,

The light will reset itself and have 50 drive cycles with no issues.

Otherwise, you need a scan tool to clear the codes.
