just got thermostat changed on 2006 jeep liberty and now it blows cold air, but when I squeeze hoses it heats up. The radiator cap on the reservoir is tight.

Take it back and have them bleed the system of air pockets. Also, make sure the coolant level is full. This guide can help us.

Please run down this guide and report back.

I have no heat when my car is idling at normal temperature on the gauge. I do get heat once my car is in motion, but as soon as I step on the break it starts cooling down. I have no leaks, coolant is good. What can be the issue?

My information shows a 195 degree thermostat. So on a fully warmed up engine, the temp would be over 200 degrees F. Are the heater hoses hot? You may need to flush heater core and or check coolant flow through heater core. With a belt driven water pump, the pump speeds up with the rpm's. So the water pump could be an issue? Belt issue? Idle rpm issue? At the moment my thought is to check coolant flow through heater at idle.

Double check the coolant level. The heater is the first item that stops working properly if the level gets low. Because of it is design the 3.7 can get a large air bubble
in the system that causes this exact symptom, but the bottle will appear fine. The bubble gets trapped in the heater core and you get a trickle of coolant once the pump starts running hard.

To purge the air can be a bear as you need to start with an empty cooling system, park on lever ground and remove the bleeder plug on the upper radiator hose outlet.
Wrap an old towel around the area so the coolant does not get on the belt.
Now add coolant slowly until it starts coming out the bleeder.

In theory you removed all the air.
In reality you probably didn't because Jeep put the thermostat at the bottom of the engine, if it was ever replaced and the new one does not have a bleed valve on it (small hole with a pin in it) to let the air on the back side get out you still have a bubble.

The best solution on these is to use a vacuum cooling system filler. It creates a vacuum in the engine, then you use that to draw in the coolant. You can sometimes rent/borrow them from a parts store.

Heater problem 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic 120,00 miles

I have noticed recently the heater on my Liberty is not working correctly. When driving, the heater works better but when idling such as at a stop light or in a drive through line the air the heater is blowing becomes cooler.

What do I check or where do I start? Thanks!

Hello,

It sounds like the coolant level is low or the heater core has blockage internally. Here is a video and a guide to help you run some simple checks to fix the problem.

Not blowing hot air only cold on heat mode. A little heat on the cold mode but only on number one fan control.

Hello,

This could be a problem with your blend door actuator. I have included a link down below that is a troubleshooting guide to go through your heater and help you isolate the problem.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/car-heater-not-working

If it is the blend door actuator that is the problem, then here is a link on how to fix it:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/replace-blend-door-motor

If it is not the problem, get back in touch with us, and let us know what you found out. We will more than happy to assist you from there.

Thanks,
Alex

I have a Renegade and I am having problem with the heat. the upper radiator hose is hot, the lower radiator hose is not and the both heating hoses going to the heater core through the firewall are hot. I hear the actuator for the blending doors moving and the blower motor works. what could be my problem? why am I not getting any heat inside my vehicle?

The actuator motor may be driving, but the blend door may be stuck closed. you need to make sure that the driver is actually moving the door first.

Okay, how do I do that? I might also add that when I change from cold air to hot air I can feel a little bit of a temperature change but not much.

Hello,

You can remove the actuator and move the pivot by hand while the system is on to see if there is any change.

Here is a guide that will give you an idea of what you are in for when doing the repair.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/replace-blend-door-motor

Here is what it will be like on your car (below) I have included all of the blend doors in the system but the one you want is the first one which is the temperature blend door.

Let us know what happens and please upload pictures or videos of the problem.

Cheers, Ken

Heat from 03 Liberty is pretty weak. Seems to work MUCH better if "recirculate" is selected, however, that does not bring in fresh air, thus fogging the windows. If deforst, lower, or upper vents are selected, heat is "luke warm" at best. I have already done; blower motor resistor, new ac/heater control knob panel, new thermostat, heater core/radiator flush, checked coolant numerous times for level, and air locks. I'm getting tired of throwing money at this issue...

Ac compressor does not run under "normal" heat settings. I have heard about this "blend door" I have looked for it and cannot seem to locate it. I have not been able to pick up a repair manual for this pig yet sorry. I think it may be behind the glove box, slightly to the left. I will have to rip the whole dash apart to get at it. This could get ugly. Whats your thought on a bad vacuum line? Thats the other "common response" im getting in regards to this issue.

Any help or ideas... PLEASE! Thanks in advance!

It could be a vacuum line going to the blend door actuator or one of the electric actuators is out.

Here is a guide that will give you an idea of what you are in for when changing the actuator.

Check out the diagrams (Below)

Please let us know what happens.

Thanks James "Jim" im assuming... I will be attempting to tear into this tomorrow. (wednesday) We shall see what happens. I get up to the cities about twice a week for work. If I would have known you were so close, I would have drove this darn thing up to you and dropped it off so you can rip it apart and deal with it... :-) Once I got the actuator out you can see where the housing cracked and once I replaced it it works perfect. 2Carpros rocks.

Thanks again for all your help.

Are you referring to the temperature of the air or the force of the air flow?

Someone is going to have to examine it and use a set of gauges to read the high and low pressures when this is happening. With that info we can tell you more.

they changed the thermastat, heatercore, blower and blower motor, flushed the system multiple times, and changed the radiator cap, even the controls they changed. i bought it in january 2012 for $6,300.00 so from that point on till now i did a oil change in september and they claim they did one when i bought it. i didnt have any oil leaks until 2 days ago and it leaked like 3/4 of the oil out of the engine and im afriad to start it again because i tryed starting it it sounded really rough idle and it misses now too.

I know this will sounds weird but raise the back of the car as high as you can with the heater and engine on this will remove the air pocket that is stuck in the heater core.

i said to them about a possible head gasket leak and their mechanic replyed with if that happens there would be coolent mixed in with the oil and you would have white or a dark smoke coming outta the tailpipe. so now im without a vehicle because they messed up and didnt do the right testing i guess because they didnt say they did any of the testing what you mentioned. what would be my next step?by the way the oil is basically coming right back out on the ground.
