issues with security?

Just when we thought the engineers couldn't get more insane with their use of computers to perform simple, common sense functions that don't require those computers, they still did manage to screw up our electrical systems even more. If you added a factory light package designed for your vehicle, the Body Computer and / or Integrated Power Module has to be reprogrammed by the dealer to know those lights are there, otherwise it won't turn on the power for them.

Blowing a fuse removed power from the computer, just like removing the battery cable, and can cause various computers to lock up. The engineers made it so we can have all kinds of problems from simply replacing the battery. That used to be simple, normal maintenance. The place to start is by visiting the dealer to have them connect their scanner to unlock any computers and to program in any new functions.

If you're referring to fog lights, keep in mind a lot of us feel they're rude and obnoxious, and they blind oncoming traffic. If it were up to me, I'd make them illegal except for use in fog.

Fixed!!! After looking around I found another post about the compass not working. It showed the IOD fuse being blown. I never checked this as the fuses were in a special looking harness. I thought they were spares locked in. This is located in the fuse box under the hood closed to the front of the truck.

I pulled them out and there is a 20 and 15 amp fuse. The 15 was blown. I replaced this, got in the truck and turned it on. Digital compass was now active, radio stayed on after the key was removed until the door was open, and!!!! the keyless entry worked again. Glad I waited a little longer and kept looking on the internet for something. Dealership wanted 90 bucks to hook it up to their machine. If I paid 90 to get told about a fuse I would've needed counseling. I hope this info will help someone in the future.

The fuses you're referring to are in yellow holders. Those are handles, and they're meant to be pulled out if the vehicle will be in storage for more than three weeks. That turns off the "ignition off draw" for the computer memories. Since they are expected to be removed at times, no reprogramming of any computer should be needed and they shouldn't lock up. Very happy it was a simple fix and you found it.

How do I bypass or eliminate the anti theft system in my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee? The ignition cylinder has been removed so I can start it with a screwdriver, because all of my keys (and fobs) were stolen. It will not stay started for more than about 2 seconds.

You cannot bypass the alarm system. I would do a hard reboot of the system which is easy. Just remove the negative battery cable and hold it to the positive battery cable terminal for 1 minute this will discharge the capacitors and reset the system.

You need the RF chip in the original key and glue it to the new key which will work

Also lock and unlock the rear hatch I have seen that work as well.

I got a anti theft key I stick in under the steering wheel Every Time before I start it, or it won't let the start crank the engine. Recently it's not been wanting to start, and I thought maybe the starter went bad, so I replaced it. And the battery and it seemed to have fixed my issue. But negative, got to work the next day and after a couple hours of driving and turning it off and on. It won't start again. I have the key plugged in, and when I turn my ignition key over to on, the brake light comes on, and check engine. Then check engine goes away but the brake light stays until it's started but it won't start, no click, nothing. I'm thinking it's this anti theft key Because the female side I have to plug it into is kinda cracked and the key is old as hell and withered. Is there a way to easily fix this? Or bypass it. And where can I buy a new one from? Please help me!!!!!

Key FOB appears to be broken, changed battery and still doesnt work. Dont want to spend money on new key and would like to just disarm the alarm. How can I do this? 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

To disable the alarm without the key fob lift the hood and then lock the doors with one window open and disconnect the battery for 30 minutes. Then reconnect the battery and open the door using the key on the drivers side. This will disable the alarm system. Also you can use the key and unlock the rear hatch that will work as well.

how do i disarm or reset the alarm system. the only thing that quiets it is to disconnect the battery terminals

It depends if this is a factory or aftermarket system. Try locking and unlocking the truck from either the driver's door or the rear hatch using the key.

alarm problem with 2004 jeep, alarm goes off sometimes with i unlock the driver side door with a after market the key, i do not have the remote for the key less entry.

It sounds like you have a driver side door latch that is out which has a micro switch which disables the alarm. I would replace it and see what happens.

You can try to manually lock (now "unlocked doors") each door on your car (meaning: open each door, lock each with your fingers).

Then go to the drivers door and unlock it manually with the key, from outside

This supposedly will reset it

Your driver's side keyfog has a switch that is damaged and needs replacement. What is going on is this: when you enter the key and turn it, the keyfob switch does not act dissabling the alarm. Next, when you open the door, the door open swhitch (which is a different switch) lights the interior lights and the alarm module interprets this as an intrussion and triggers the alarm outloud. So, all you need to do is to locate the switch in the extreme of the door keyfob and replace it. In my jeep such keyfob comes sealed with the switch so both things need to be replaced.

i fix the alarm system, i had to buy a new key and remote. no more alarm going off. the remote controls everything.

wrong key was put in red light with line through key comes on immobilizer wont let the car run shuts off after 3 seconds can the dealer reprogram it or do I need new parts I tried all the suggestions offered on internet none worked?

Went and asked about the anti-theft and car starting problem, the man told me that if the theft light blinks it is a problem reading the key, and if it stays solid it is the computer. So far, the key light stays solid; is there anyway to fix the computer at home? Any suggestions on to what in the computer is going bad?

try a reset or another key if you have one not a new key as it will need to be programmed. See our link.

I have a 2000 Jeep grand Cherokee. it was dying out on me for no reason at random times I went to run a diagnostic on it only to get told the computer in the jeep was for a 2001 and mine is a 2000 so therefore they could not diagnose it. so I bought a new computer for it programmed to my vehicle, put it in and now the security system is messing up the lock is staying on and the vehicle dies right out and wont stay on? Please help

when you replace computers you need to have a pro input the security details otherwise you will have your problem you do now. No matter what the a-holes at the autoparts tell you

Theres no way to reset the security system? When the new computer is in theres a light with a key and line threw it. It starts for like 2 seconds and then dies.

when a computer is replaced in the newer models a mechanic has to program in the security system otherwise you get what you have now. you cannot reset it because it doesn't recognize it.

Is there a way to completely disable the security at home, like wiring? A way to remove the key lock security that is preventing start up?

The alarm system is built into the computer of the car and cannot be bypassed.

The system is not reading the key. I was just wondering if there would be any way to disarm it, atleast to get the car to a garage for proper fixing?

I would inquire first at the dealer's parts department to see if they can make you another key. The original selling dealer keeps the key codes on file for at least seven years. After that, and any other dealer can access the information from Chrysler's web site. They only need the vehicle ID number, and possibly proof of ownership if you have never had the vehicle worked on there before.
