2006 Jeep Commander Over heating

I just had a new engine put in and it started over heating should they have changed the thermostate in it as well. Also now i can drive it for maybe 2 blocks and it will turn off.so I had a friend look at the inside and now there saying there is oil in the water.

Usually the thermostat doesn't get replaced with engine replacements it is either comes with the new engine or is transfered over from the old engine.

A number of components can cause an engine to overheat. Any air in the cooling system will cause overheat, a faulty or broken water pump will cause the engine to overheat, a stuck closed thermostat will cause overheating, and a blown head gasket will also cause overheating.

Is there a check engine light on? If so, what is the code(s).

Does the engine oil or coolant appear to look like a strawberry shake in color?
