Will not crank over?

I have the car listed above (coupe). The key fob got broken and I have been using the mechanical key. Which worked just fine. Problems first started when I had a friend try to install a new stereo system with an amp. After that day if I left the fuse that connects to the AC and car stereo in the vehicle overnight it would drain the battery and i would have to jump it every morning. Which was fine. Then i had what I thought was someone certified in wiring stereos in mess with it. Come to find out he was not certified at all and pulled wires out of I do not know where. After that day my vehicle would not start. If I put the key in the ignition and turn it on i get lights on my dash and my radio works but when I try to start it. It would not turn and start. I have no red key indicator. My vehicle still registers my key. On the dash my slip and VDF comes on. So i have no idea what it could be. I do not think my ECM is fried or anything. I turn my key and all i hear is a click. When i use a voltmeter to check my starter rely on the fuse box behind the battery nothing shows up. Is that normal? Or is my starter not getting power? Please help.

Yep people that don't know what they are doing can cause big problem which sounds like what has happened. I would remove the stereo and check out what was done so we can put it back.

Hi I tried charging the battery, but car still won't start. There is as rapid clicking noise for about 5 seconds when I try to start the car. I think it might be the starter gone bad. The lights still work and the radio work could it still be the battery that's the problem?

No crank at all/nothing/nada:

Could be the starter, starter relay, park and neutral switch and ignition switch assuming the battery and connections are good.

Interior lights uses only a small amount of current. The starter requires a high discharge therefore if the battery is weak, you won't be able to crank but do have all the lights.

If a jump start works, you need to test the battery condition and alternator charging.

the gear indicator went blank. AT check light is stationery on the car refuse to start.

Most likely this is an issue with the park neutral switch. Basically this is what tells the transmission control module that it is in park or neutral and it is okay to start.

We need to start with checking for codes to see if we have any thing there pointing us to a specific place. I suspect we will and then we can perform that testing. If you can't pull codes, then most parts stores can get them free of charge. The issue clearly is getting the vehicle to them so they can do it. However, we need codes to make sure we are testing and replacing the proper components.

Let me know what you find and we can go from there.

It lost all power and made a weird noise one day while driving and had to be towed to my house. The lights and stuff would come on when the key was inserted but would not even click or try to start when turning the key. I had the battery checked and recharged and the alternator replaced. The car now clicks like it is trying to start but will not turn over.

Hello, I am Danny.

It sounds like you may be having a problem with the starter motor. Have you had it checked? That is usually the problem when the car just clicks and will not spin over. Your local auto parts stores (Pep Boys, Autozone, O'Reilly's) will check for free. I am attaching a tutorial showing the removal/replacement of a starter. I just got given the car listed above and he said the battery was dead and the clutch was shot. I charged the battery for a good while and gave it a good crank. About one turn in it died completely, door lights, radio, dash light, The whole 9 yards. My friend then mentioned to me how he took at somewhere and they said how the clutch had a sensor in it to detect if the clutch was bad and would not allow it to start. I can’t find anything online but maybe you guys could help. thanks

The only thing that would be close to this is called the clutch pedal position switch. This can prevent the start but it does not detect if the clutch has failed.

The position switch (inter lock switch according to Infiniti) just tells the PCM if the clutch is depressed and if it is it allows the engine to start.

Sounds like to me that you have a failed battery and I would suggest changing that first and then retest the operation of the rest.

At the very least we need to have the battery load tested. If the car doesn't start you can remove the battery and take it to a parts store and they will test if free of charge.

Thanks, that is what I was thinking because it seemed a little far fetched that a clutch it’s self would have a sensor the determined if the car could start or not.

Electrical problem
2003 Infiniti G35 Two Wheel Drive Automatic

Car was running fine yesterday. Today It started fine and was driving when it seemed to lose acceleration and dash lights started to go out. I pulled over and shut it off. Tried to restart and nothing happens. Battery and fuses all seem fine. I tried jump starting and still nothing. no sounds at all. All dash lights and everything else electrical seem to work fine. Tried using a different key in case the micro chip in the key had gone bad, but still nothing. Any Ideas?

Are the headlights bright? Sure sounds like the battery/alt went away and you lost power.Do the interior lights go on when door is opened? Did you check the battery voltage with a meter?

Mine was doing the same thing recently. Do your VDC, Slip, and SES lights ever illuminate when the car does this? A very common problem on these cars are bad camshaft and crankshaft position sensors. My car had your intermittent "no start" condition for awhile before it started throwing codes. I replaced the left (passenger) bank camshaft position sensor 3 months ago and the problem hasnt resurfaced. It seems that most folks with this problem have to replace the same sensor, but I have seen it be the right bank sensor and/or crankshaft position sensor too. Hope this helps if you haven't already fixed it!

Good call, have replaced quite a few of the CMP sensors myself, have gotten codes for both of them
