Ford Mondeo Diesel tdci 2000cc - smoking, no turbo and on `safe mode` - 56-plate with 200k on clock.

Bought this car and noticed heavy black smoke on acceleration on the way home with it.

Things soon got worse and it now starts from cold, with the glow light on and in `safe mode`, with no turbo until it heats up, then I can turn the engine off and on and the glow light will stay out unless I put the heavily dark-smoking engine under load with fast acceleration, which causes the the engine to return to `safe mode`

I`ve cleaned out the egr valve and replaced the maf sensor, but problem still persists. Can you advise?

Thanks!

An error has been detected in the engine control system and you need a scan to to retrieve the trouble code to understand what is causing the problem and proceed from there.

If the fault is still showing MAF sensor, then it could be the wiring or PCM fault.

turns out it`s the turbo boost valve which is faulty and it seems a replacement turbo is the only answer as it is inside the turbo...was also wondering if a faulty map sensor would give the same symptoms.

Any differences in vacuum or boost leakage would show similar symptoms therefore a faulty MAP is possible.
