I have a 2006 ford five hundred, I think its something to do with the transmission but i'm no car guy. here's the problem. if I put the car in drive or reverse and hold the brake and press the gas it sounds normal but if I put it in neutral, drive or reverse then it starts making a loud noise like its the fly wheel but the fly wheel is new and if I put it in drive and take off driving it sounds worse. the noise gets louder, you can hear me coming from a distance. the car seems to drive normal but really loud. someone told me it sounds like the ball bearing is going out in the transmission or something else in the transmission.

When you say "Like the flywheel" what do you mean? Does it sound like two gears not properly meshed?

Typically, if you hear the noise only when the car is moving, it is the output section of the transmission.

yes it sounds like that. I hear it while its in park or neutral and when I drive but if I put the car in reverse or drive and hold the brake then it sounds normal plus if I give it gas while holding the brake it still sounds normal.

Wow. I'm still a little fuzzy.

So, if you step on the brake, not matter where the trans is, you get no unhealthy sound.

If you let go of the brake, even standing still (?), you do get the noise?

Is there any way you can get a decent quality recording of the noise and upload it and link to it here? Can you localize the sound?

If you only hear the sound when the car is moving, it could be something internal in the trans or it could be CV joints or an axle bearing.

Is it a manual or automatic transmission? (Automatics have flexplates, manuals have flywheels).
