replace the engine oil pan

OIL PAN REMOVAL
1) Disconnect negative battery cable.
2) Remove radiator close out panel.
3) Remove radiator core support.
4) Remove radiator cooling fans.
5) Remove the engine oil indicator.

NOTE: It is not necessary to recover the refrigerant from the refrigerant system to perform this procedure.

6) Remove the top air conditioning compressor bolts.
7) Raise and support the vehicle.
NOTE: It is not necessary to recover the refrigerant from the refrigerant system to perform this procedure.

8) Remove the lower air conditioning compressor mounting bolts and reposition the compressor with a suitable retaining strap.
9) Remove the air conditioning compressor bracket
10) Remove structural collar from oil pan and transmission housing.
11) Remove the inspection shield between the transmission and oil pan.
12) Drain engine oil.


13) Remove oil pan fasteners. Remove oil pan (Fig. 135).
NOTE: A small amount of oil will remain in the oil pan. Use care when removing the oil pan from the engine.

14) Remove oil pan gasket.

Why do you have to remove so many other parts to remove the oil pan and can you remove the engine from the top or the front? i do not have a lift to raise the car off the front cradle to remove the sub frame.

engine has to be removed from bottom with cradle. Unfortunately vehicles are built for ease of assembly not repair.

What are the step by step procedures for oil pan replacement on a 04' Pacifica?

Why is it necessary to do steps 2,3,&4? I do not understand? Please advise. JBowen.

What is involved in removing and replacing the engine oil pan?

I have an 05 Chrysler Pacifica with the 3.5 engine.

If I recall, there is enough room to remove it without lifting the engine.

Drain plug head is striped so bad that even a good bolt extractor will not get it out.. Can the oil pan be dropped without lifting the motor?? Or is there another way to remove drain plug??

you can drill and use a chisel to chip it out if you are good with drill and can go through center then it may bend what is left and come out. o;il pan is in two sections so you need to remove lower section also steering gear has to be removed and put out of way.
