The wipers quit working so we had to take them off and do some repairs. We now have them working but they are not in proper alignment. When we turn them off they stop in the middle of the wind shield. When on they go to and fro normally. The nut that holds the 2 sides of the wiper arms together had came off. When we put that nut back on they started working. They just won't go back to the proper off position. The wipers are in a vertical position

Hello,

It sounds like you have a wiper motor that is going out or the wiper arms need to be repositioned. Here is a diagrams that will show you how to install the motor and arms. Double check to make sure one of the arms is not installed upside down or backwards. Check out the diagrams (Below) Please let us know what you find.

Wipers on my 2006 cobalt bounce across the windshield,if misting or pouring rain. not as bad when sitting still as when moving.Dealer first put Rain-X on windshield, then new blades, then new arms & blades, then another new arm & blade on the drivers side.Still bouncing, sometimes so bad, it's like not having any wipers.

I have a 2006 Cobalt and the windshield wipers stopped working midway through a cycle. I can hear the motor, but mechanically something disconnected. I read somewhere that there is a clip that connects the wipers to the motor. I am thinking that this is my issue. I would like to fix this issue on my own, but don't know where to start once I pop the hood. The person who described the clip issue said a mechanic showed them how to fix the problem and that it looked fairly straight forward. Unfortunately, that person did not elaborate on steps to do this. Can you offer some insight/details on how to go about this?

Can you see how the wiper arms/linkage is connected? You may have to remove air-inlet grille, to get at anything.
