Installed a new battery. Alternator does not charge and shifter is locked,have to use screwdriver to release. Car starts and drives fine. Checked all visible fues in dash and under hood,replaced an ECM fuse and everthing else ok. What now?

what is the voltage at the battery with the engine runnign?? some cars alternators do not charge till a load is introduced.

did you check all fuses with a test light??
