Fuel pump not running, no pressure. Just replaced pump, okay. Checked all of the fuses in the whole car (under hood, in rear electronic module, central electronic module), checked the relays under the hood (they all can be triggered with a 12 volt power supply). If I take out the fuel pump relay and put key in second position, I get 10 volts on the two switched leads. I did the old 'paperclip' between the two leads to simulate the circuit being triggered (no fuel pump on). Not sure what to do next.

Are you getting battery voltage at the fuel pump when the relay terminal are jumped?

If voltage is available, check the ground circuit connections.

Also check the fuel pump module behind the right rear wheel well. Check connectors for oxidation especially if you live in the east coast. If that is corroded you will need to replace the module with the harness and actually the repair has you put it inside the vehicle now. Let us know what you find.

Behind the right wheel well, what pieces do I need to remove to check it? What does it look like? I do live in Chicago so corrosion might be an issue. And when you talk about the right side, is this driver side or other? (sort of like stage left or right, heh)

Remove the rear passenger wheel. Towards the front of the wheel gently pull back on the wheel well. You may need to drill out a rivet or two, but you may get lucky where you will not need too? But once you pull back the module will be sitting right there. Let me know if this helps you out.

Awesome, right is passenger. :)

Okay, getting drill to pop a few rivets, jack, stands, impact gun and maybe a beer or three.

First, kids get a shower.

Well, can you give me your professional opinion? The completely non technical wife gave hers and I do not know if I agree. She says that the unit might be bad. I think it is just fine.

What the heck? You opened it up? Well I see some corrosion in there on the lower part of the circuit board. Looks kind of burnt too? So looks like you need a new one now. See image below for part numbers. You will need to install it inside the vehicle to avoid this problem again unless you still want to mount it outside? If you need the directions I would need to fax it to you tomorrow since it is pretty long set of instructions?

Are you sure it looks bad? The stinky burnt smell, corrosion, busted pins and crap inside I thought was just for insulation. Guess not. (of course I kid....)

307922, I am thinking I will just remount it on the outside. This car is on its way out and I will let the new owner deal with it. Sucks to be them. The plug looks, okay. I sprayed it with pb blaster to try and get some of the yuck out of it. My goal at this point is to get it running again.

I will call the dealer in the morning. Got an idea of price? Cannot be very much, heck, there is not anything inside it.

Modules are pretty expensive? This one you may be lucky it will be just plug and play. But I guess you will find out tomorrow when you call the dealer how much it costs? So for now just enjoy that beer and worry about it tomorrow now. ;)

"That" heck, as dirty as I got yanking that thing from the car, I will have to.

The geeky electronics guy inside me knows that if I undersold the four leads, put new ones on, glue the sucker back together it just might work. heh.

$330.00 plus tax.

Well the price is not as bad as I expected? Thought it would be double that? Good luck finding one at the dismantler then?

No fuel pressure before and after replacing the fuel pump. All fuses under the hood are good (pump, ecm, etc...). Relays have the right resistance. Key in 2nd position and pressing my ear to the rear of the car (where the access panel is for the pump) and can't hear the pump whirring. Help! what next?

Aside from looking at it and making a happy remark, what would be a possible testing procedure?

Engine Mechanical problem
2004 Volvo XC90 All Wheel Drive Automatic 140000 miles

My xc90 just quite the other day in a parking lot. My fuel gage showed just over 1/2 a tank. When I turned it over, I could here that it was fireing but wouldn't start. I had it towed to the Volvo dealer and they suggested it was the fuel pump. $ 1400.00 later I had a new pump installed. As I was leaving the dealer they mentioned that I should head straight to a gas station to put in fuel as they had to put a gerry can of fuel in it. The very next day I realized that my fuel gage was not working properly, giving me misreadings. I feel the dealer made a huge mistake by replacing the fuel pump. I beleive the truck was just out of gas and needed the gage replaced (is that a big job?). I have contacted the service manager but I'm not getting hepl I'm looking for. They now want to charge me to fix the fuel gage!! I need you to educate me as best as you can so I can fight this properly.
Thanks you in advance.

You have 2 level units. One is on the left side of the tank and the other is part of the fuel pump assembly but I am assuming you have the plastic gas tank installed. If the hoses or harness was not routed correctly it can get cought up with the level float causing a misreading of the gage? Does it still read half? Or did it change position now? They should at least recheck what they did at no charge. If all that looks good then you will need to pay for further diagnosing?
