The car hard shifts between gears 1,2,3 smooth on the rest of the gears this happens when car gets hot 10 15 min. Of driving. The pan did get hit but I had it replaced and there was no damage inside as far as you could see. New oil and filter and no codes. I did notice there were four cylinder shaped what I might guess are shift servos, but no damage was noted and wiring all looked good. What could be causing the shifting problem?

I would replace the valvebody, You may not see physical damage, but they are very fragile.

2001 VW New Beetle 1.8 L. Engine. When driving the transmission does not shift automatically, I have to shift it myself. The shop put it on a machine and said it came back with a code saying that I needed a Speed Odometer Sensor, I go and buy that they put it on, it still does not shift. Could it be that they did not clear the code? They said they did. Do you know what Sensors control this? Or if it is a Module and if so which one? Or do you have any other ideals? Thanks in advance for any and all information.

just out of curiousity, when you turn the key on- engine off, does your check engine light illuminate??? usually when your tranny wont shift, it goes into a "limp" mode, and will set a hard fault... it is possible for them to have not cleared the code/codes, and that could result in your problem, however, without knowing for sure, all i can do is suggest you bring it to your local parts store, and have the codes (if any) read, and cleared... once that is done, we can further diag your issue if it persists....
