over reving when starting

My Car keeps over reving when starting and sometimes after driving...if i stop it goes to abt 2000rpm..if i turn it off and wait a while and start it

When i stop.....whit the cluctch in or out of gear the car over revs why

Do you have a check engine light?

Check the idle air control and throttle plate if its fully closing-acc. linkage/cable could be sticking
