2005 Toyota Sienna A/C does not cool

A few days ago A/C would stop cooling and then cool again. Yesterday it stopped cooling all together. Had it checked: pressures are fine, fans run. Apparently compressor does not receive signal to run. Swapped relay to horn position but it is working. Technician said investigation would take an entire day and repair would not be less than $200.

HOW DID YOU CHECK THE PRESSURES WITH IT NOT OPERATING?

My wife was present, not me. She told me he checked and the system has not lost pressure. But he mentioned compressor is not receiving signal. His initial guess is problems with magnet but needs to verify.

If it needs to be replaced, how complicated is the procedure?

What you described doesn't make sense. The clutch on the compressor is magnetic. However, it won't engage, most times it is due to no power to it. What needs done is to have a jumper wire (fused) that can provide 12 volts of power to the compressor clutch to see if engages, or simply, check to see if there is power to the compressor in the first place.

If you have a multi meter or volt meter, I can tell you how to check it yourself. As of it taking an entire day, it could if it is an electrical issue. However, by checking for power, you could eliminate a lot of questions.
