I took my Toyota Highlander in for service 10 days ago and got a clean report. This weekend my check engine light went on I took it in to the toyota dealer they are telling me a coil went bad, isn't that something that should have shown up on the diagnostics that were done 10 days ago? And how common is this problem?

Coils do go bad, and there is no timeframe, so they may have been OK when they checked them eariler.

2003 front wheel drive Highlander 4 cyl. 85000 miles. Replaced 7 coils within a year. Toyota dealer, no satisfaction. This is such a nice vehicle, and hope to find a answer to resolve this problem.

I would use OEM coils because there is many coil manufacturers out there that use cheap materials to make their coils. Also check the engine ground strap from the block to the frame. This can cause load on the coils as well.
