I am working on my '05 Subaru Outback LLBean.
On the front left wheel, I have removed the tire, brake caliper, spindle nut, the brake rotor and the 4 screws that mount the hub bearing.
The drive axle slides freely in the hub.

How much effort should it take to separate the hub bearing from the suspension?
I'm worried about banging on it too much and damaging the mounting.

gosh 200 characters min...that's a lot to write...for a guy that tends to be long winded I thought I had the pretty well summed up.

You would need a slide hammer to pull the hub off and how easy it comes off depends on how badly stuck is the hub.

To have it out easier, I would remove the complete knuckle and punch the hub from rear. A hydraulic press is the recommended procedure and it should be noted that banging can damage the wheel bearings.
