My 2005 Pontiac grand am has sludge in the engine and has lost power. I want v to put a oil additive in the oil to clean it a little and improve performance even just slightly. But I'm scared if I do it could cause problems to surface that would otherwise not show up until way later down the road. Should I add it? And could problems show up after I do?

Use a known brand engine flush and follow the instructions, all this does is help break down the sludge, if yours is bad, you may need to change the oil and filter a second time in a week or so.
