I'm told my old shocks are 'leaking' and I need new ones for my 2005 Mitsubishi (approx 77,000 mi. on it), cost $1200-1400. Is this reasonable?

Is the front or rears leaking?Have you looked for yourself to see if they really are leaking? Also wwhats your zip?So i can see what the repair should cost.

Comfort and road holding, which could be a safety hazard would be compromised. At such low mileage the shocks should not be leaking and even if one does, you need not replace all four. If fronts are leaking, just replace the front, both sides.
Alternatively you can get used shocks from the junkyard.
