I'm so confused that I don't even know where to start. So I'm just going to relate the series of events as they happened. Could this be a charging issue, like a bad battery or alternator messing with the transmission? It's weird that the batter light came on and suddenly the transmission started acting up.

Battery light came on two days ago. Battery under warranty. New battery put in car, and the light came on again. Unhooked battery while engine running and windshield washers turned on. Turned on AC and battery light went off. Turn AC back off, light comes back on.

Drove around the corner and noticed that it would lose power in the blower motor for the AC unit. Parked car. Reversed, put in drive, and it's in 3rd gear.

Turned the car on and off several times. Sometimes, it's fine. Sometimes, it will only shift to 3rd gear.

The car was running fine until the batter light came on.

Please help.

big mistake taking cable off while running. you may have damaged the pcm.

the battery light is an alternator issue, not battery.

the trans will have to be checked after the other issues are resolved.

It was a bad battery. We tested it at the store and had to get a new one.

Could the battery and the alternator go out at the same time?

yes, the battery light is a no charging indicator.

could that cause the transmission to act faulty?

When the battery was tested, it could be drained due to the faulty charging system and when voltage is lower than required, it can cause the transmission to shift erratically. This would also cause the blower motor to run badly and engine performance as well. The new battery is only going to last you a certain driving time before it is drained again.
