Steering Column Removal

Hello,

It looks like you will need to get to the underside of the screw that is where it comes undone I found these diagrams for you to help you remove the column and replace the ignition switch.

Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.

I can not remove the igintion harness from the steering column b/c the bolts are flat. How do I remove the ignition harness bolts/screws? 2003 Honda odyssey. The replacement screws have hex head tops. But the originals are smooth or flat.

Tamper proof bolts sometimes can get loose with Vise Grips otherwise center punch bolt drill off head

My question is more of a general question concerning major repairs on this make and age of vehicle.
We just had all the brakes replaced, the water pump replaced, and replaced the timing belt. Now the key is not working all the time in the steering column.
Our mechanic is going to replace the key switch in the steering column, due to the fact that the tumblers are wearing out. This will run approximately $425 for parts and labor.
My question is is we should be set for awhile after this repair. Or is there another major component that is known to go bad and need repaired about this time in the Odessey's life cycle. Just wondered so we could get a feel for what other large $$ items might need replaced really soon.

At your mileage, if the timing belt has not been replaced, that is one of the most important maintenence job that requires attention. Apart from that, it would be impossible to forecast impending problems.

KHLow2008, thank you so much for your thoughts and advice on this. We did just replace the timing belt, so hopefully we'll be okay for awhile.
