Fuel gauge not working correct

The fuel gauge have been off for about six months I would fill the tank and sometimes it would read full and other times it would read around half. In the past couple of days it would read empty and the go to half, but now it stays around empty all of the time

Have the fuel sending unit checked-

i would check the fuel sender on a scaner. if you place an ohm meater on the 2 sender wires it should read 40 to 250 ohms 40 on a full tank and 250 whel low on fuel
