Stuck in anti theft mode

I bought this vehicle a few months ago stuck in anti theft mode. I had new keys cut and programmed into the car memory. When I go to start it, it has a really rough idle, will not stay running for more than two or three seconds. And I noticed the dash indicator flashes from park to drive when trying to start, does it constantly. I know the key is programmed to the car though because when you turn the key to the “on” position the “theft” indicator illuminates for three seconds then goes out. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I did that but that car is still flashing park to drive when cranking. Do you think the PCM is bad?

Hello again.

That is possible as the control functions are contained in the PCM. Have you checked the harness connector at the PCM? Check for loose/corroded/burnt connections.The PCM is located in a recess in the center of the Firewall. I have attached a picture showing its location. They were located in the shifter mechanism I figured out they were for the overdrive button! I have one last problem with the car, I am wondering if it is the CV boot or what else it could be it looks like there has been some leakage.

Hello again.

By looking at your picture. No, not the CV boots. That is the seal in the differential. The ends of your CV axles have a splined stub shaft that inserts into the differential through those seals. Looks like they are leaking. You will have to remove axles to replace the seals but it is pretty simple. The seals are like $10.00 apiece. I can send step-by-steps if you need. Hello again.

I have attached a picture step-by-step how to remove the rear CV axles and seal. You can use a pry bar for the seal if you do not have a specialty tool. I have also attached a CV axle tutorial to give you an idea. Hope this helps and thanks again for using 2CarPros.

No, That would not be necessary. Only drain and change if it has never been done or is due for service(125,000 miles). Hope this helps and thanks again for using 2CarPros.

I do not know if it has been changed but it is at 115,xxx miles now. Do you know how much fluid it needs?
