You need some punctuation in that huge sentence, otherwise it can be read at least three different ways. First you need to find out what the diagnostic fault code is. Many auto parts stores will do that for you for free. You can also do that yourself by cycling the ignition switch three times from "off" to "run" within five seconds without cranking the engine, then read the codes as they show up in the odometer display.

This guide should help us

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/checking-a-service-engine-soon-or-check-engine-light-on-or-flashing

Understand too that fault codes never say to replace parts. They will often reference a sensor but they only indicate the circuit or system that needs further diagnosis.

Noises in the steering and suspension systems must never be ignored. Often they are caused by minor things but to know for sure it isn't something that is going to separate leading to loss of control and a crash, have it inspected at a tire and alignment shop.

I need to replace my battery, I'm getting one Friday. the check engine light came on today, car is running just fine. however, I took it to O'Reilly's, to use the OEM meter, it spit back 16 codes. there were none p codes, and p codes. I'm not sure how to figure out what the non p codes are. These were the code: 31, 19, 16, 48, 45, 31.
The p codes were repeated a couple of times
P0562, p0760,p1684, p700,p 562, p700, p760, p 0562, p700, p700
Please help, if y'all can. I'm a woman, but not stupid. I've worked on my cars before..

Hello

The first codes P0562 is system low voltage which will cause all kinds of issues. lets get a good battery then clear the codes to see what happens. These guides can help:

and

Please run down these guides and report back.

Just got done changing the oil and installing a new air filter drove the car home (30 minutes expressway) got off the ramp and my engine light turned on. The engine seemed to be running better than ever since changing the air filter (the old one was extremely dirty, due to the area i am in) I thought it could be because the filter is clean and the engine is getting more air (especially since the manual says that light also is for Engine Emissions and maintenance) but i'm not sure. I have checked all the fluids, there are no smells/squeeks or clangs so I am at a loss and cannot afford to bring it to my mechanic unless there is a real problem.

run it for a couple of more days and just make sure that you plugged in whatever you unplugged. and then reply, i'll get your reply first. again just run it for another day or two just to see if it will go out. and make sure your gas cap is very tight because that will make your engine light com on too.

The no bus code indicates there is a break down between the PCM and its components. Check to make sure the wiring harness to it is tight, clean, and not damaged.

Let me know what you find.

I am curious as to the target idle speed for a 2005 Dodge Stratus. Also, how long does it take for a MIL to reset after dis-connecting the negative lead to the battery and hopefully fixing my problem outlined below?

I had a MIL illuminate with a diagnosed P0507 OBDII. The car did idle kind of high. I was able to clean the throttle body and the engine does now have a lower idle, approx. 1.6 on the dash.

My MIL is now turned off but I suspect that disconnecting the negative lead on the battery caused this as the MIL will not reset.

If the light is on, there is a trouble code set in the computer. You need to have the computer scanned to determine the problem. Most nationally recognized parts stores will do it for free.

Let me know what you find.

Hi,

My check engine light has been on for quite a while. I recently had a friend use their trouble code scanner on my vehicle and it gave me the codes of P2431 and P2433. I know that it has something to do with the secondary air injection pump. But I'm not sure what the problem may be or how to go about fixing it. I'm selling the car and want to find a way to get this taken care of in the next couple days. What advice would you give on my current situation?

Thanks,

Check for applicable codes. If it cranks good but won't start, have a helper crank it while you visually check for spark at the plugs. If you have spark everywhere, use a gage and check fuel pressure.

My advice is more about your relationship with your garage. You need to be taking it to someone who is trustworthy. Feel free to post as many times as you like to get an understanding of what is going on with your car. There are articles here that can provide good information on the check engine light.

The range is so wide as to what the problem may be. Codes need to be extracted from the computer for a start of the diagnosis process. What ever the problem is I would expect that this will be covered under warranty based on the age and milage of the car. The one exception is if you didn't tighten your gas cap the last time you put gas in.

[quote="debra7147"]Have replaces the Idle air control Value the coil pack and the air filter. The code is P0507. Thanks Debra[P0507-IDLE SPEED HIGH PERFORMANCE
When Monitored: Engine Running. During an idle condition.
Set Condition: If the engine RPM does not come within a calibratable high limit of the target idle speed, a failure timer will increment. When the appropriate failure timer reaches its maximum threshold without sign of RPM trending towards control, a soft fail is generated. When a calibratable number of the soft fails is reached, a 1 trip fault is set. When two 1 trip faults occur in a row, the DTC is set and the MIL illuminates.
POSSIBLE CAUSES
 GOOD TRIP EQUAL TO ZERO
 PCV SYSTEM
 IAC MOTOR PASSAGES
 VACUUM LEAKS
 AIR INDUCTION SYSTEM
 THROTTLE BODY AND THROTTLE LINKAGE /quote]

my automatic 2005 dodge stratus had its check engine light turn on then minutes later when leaving a stop light it began jolting in first gear and wouldn't go into second gear. We pulled over and turned the car off for a couple minutes and then turned it on and we drove off without issues but the check engine light stayed on. It had done this once before a couple months ago and the check engine light stayed on for about a week and went away.

The first thing is to have the diagnostic fault codes read and recorded. The people at many auto parts stores will do that for you for free.

Driving with the Check Engine light on is a very bad idea. The Engine Computer detected a problem that could be relatively minor, but it could turn into an expensive one if the cause is ignored. Even when the cause is determined to be not real serious, you would never know if a second, really serious problem develops because the light is already on.

You can get an idea of the severity of the fault code by how the Check Engine light acts. When the problem is intermittent and not serious, the light will go off when the problem stops occurring. If it's a little more serious, the light will stay on, even when the problem goes away, until you stop and restart the engine. When it's more serious, even though it may not be acting up right now, the light will be on anytime the engine is running. Those are the ones that can cause other expensive repairs. The really bad problems cause the Check Engine light to flash. That means stop the engine right away because serious damage is occurring right now.
