2005 Chevrolet Colorado engine rebuild

Hi:

1) Make sure the camshaft is fully advanced prior to install

2) Install the camshaft actuator into the timing chain
(align the marked link (1) in the timing chain with the timing mark (1) on the exhaust camshaft position actuator sprocket. See pic attached.

NOTE: the camshaft actuator must be fully advanced when installed or engine damage can occur.

NOTE: To help in aligning the actuator to the camshaft, use a 25mm wrench on the hex of tha camshaft to rotate it. Also, make sure the alignment pin is properly engaged with the camshaft.

3) Install a new camshaft actuator bolt and torque to 18 ft/lbs Using tool J45059 to rotate the actuator bolt an additional 135 degrees.

NOTE: This procedure does require the use of GM tools J44221 and J44217 to lock the cams in position.

the actuator turns, but how far do you turn it before you install it?

Turn it until it is fully advanced.

How do you fully advance the timing actuator? How do you know if its fully advanced?
