Is a loose tire rod something that can be tightened or does it need to be replaced?

At my recent oil change I was told that I have a loose tire rod on my rear passanger side. The dealership told me that it should be replaced somewhat soon. When I hear loose I assume that it can just be tightened, is this the case?

NO needs to be replaced "loose" means worn
