I was having problems with the Traction Control system kicking in for no apparent reason at all, on perfectly clear, dry, conditions. I thought it might be because my tires were worn unevenly, so I purchased brand new tire, and had a mechanic check out the system and he inform me that everything appeared to be working fine, yet on the way home from the shop, with brand new tire, it started to come on and stall for no reason. Do you have a clue what's going on with my SUV, I'm lost.

have it scanned by a pro it may be a calibration problem with abs unit or steering wheel sensor like a bent terminal or poor connection on that. see pic

forgot there are a couple tsb's on this

Bulletin No.: 05-05-25-008

Date: October 05, 2005

TECHNICAL

Subject:
Service Stabilitrak(R) Message or Intermittent Stabilitrak(R) Activation During Normal Driving, Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) C0455 (Inspect/Repair Steering Wheel Position Sensor (SWPS) Connector and Reprogram Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM))

Models:
2004-2006 Cadillac Escalade Models
2004-2006 Chevrolet Avalanche, Suburban, Tahoe
2004-2006 GMC Yukon Models

with Control, Active Brake (RPO JL4)

Condition

Some customers may comment on a Service Stabilitrak(R) message or intermittent Stabilitrak(R) activation during normal driving.

When interrogating with the Tech 2(R), the technician may find a DTC C0455.

Cause

There are multiple possible causes for this issue. This bulletin will address the two most likely causes.

^ A bent terminal or poor connection at the SWPS may be one possible cause.

^ The vehicle stability enhancement system (VSES) electronic brake control module (EBCM) calibration may be the other possible cause.

Correction

1. Remove the SWPS connector located at the base of the STRG column.

2. Inspect the SWPS connector terminals for bent of loose terminals.

3. Inspect the SWPS terminals for bent or loose terminals.

Important:
DO NOT replace the SWPS or connector if bent or loose terminals are found.

4. If either the SWPS terminals or SWPS connector terminals are bent or loose, repair the terminals.

5. Reprogram the VSES EBCM with TIS version 9.0 released on 9/04/05 or later.

Warranty Information

Bulletin No.: 04-08-49-006C

Date: January 05, 2005

TECHNICAL

Subject:
Service Stability Message Displayed, DTC C0550 Set (Reprogram EBCM)

Models:
2004-2005 Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, Escalade EXT
2004-2005 Chevrolet Avalanche, Suburban, Tahoe
2004-2005 GMC Yukon, Yukon Denali, Yukon XL

Supercede:

This bulletin is being revised to correct the Subject line. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 04-08-49-006B (Section 08 - Body and Accessories).

Condition

Some customers may comment that while driving downhill and making a turn, the Service Stability message will display in the Driver Information Center (DIC). This will occur prior to ABS activation and once stopped, the message will go off.

Upon investigation, the technician may find DTC C0550 stored in history.

Cause

The cause of this condition may be that the "Long Accel Gain" parameters in the EBCM are sensitive to certain driving conditions.

Correction

Technicians are to reprogram the EBCM with an updated software calibration. This new service calibration was released with TIS satellite data update version 9.5 available September 20, 2004. As always, make sure your TECH 2(R) is updated with the latest software version.

Both involve reprogramming of the computer

The stability system disabled message is starting to come up on my truck which is followed by "reduced engine power" message. WHen this happens apparently the truck will not go past 2000 rpms. I understand the need for this when stability is an issue but how do I either bypass it or fix it. This is happenign more regularly and when I first get in the truck and start it. Thus far a few restarts resets it and the truck runs fine but it seems to be getting worse.

Thanks

You will need to find a shop with a scan tool capable of scanning the suspension system to retreive any trouble codes that are causing the system to disable. The computer is seeing a problem somewhere and shutting it down, pulling the codes is the only way to pinpoint the problem, there are too many possibilities to just guess

My Escalade EXT keeps giving me a "Service Stability System" message on the message screen on the dashboard. I had the same problem last year, and the dealer found trouble codes C0205.207 stored in the system. They checked the reading from the "Steering Wheel Position" and found an internal malfunction in the "Steering Wheel Position Sensor."QUESTION: What's going on? Is it likely that the same sensor has failed...after just one year and 3,000 miles? Do you know of any systemic problems with this model of the Escalade...and can you point me in the right direction...other than back to the dealer? If I purchased one of the better OBDII readers...will it really help me solve the problem?

Did your new reader find any codes? Not likely that it is the same problem, but the PCM sees something it doesn't like and if your scanner wont read the code/codes, you will need to find a shop that can.

My 2002 Escalade recently started showing the "Service Stability System" light and when you truned a corner at slow speeds the front wheels were grabbing like an old style 4WD vehicle with locking hubs. The vehilce was sluggish to accelerate afterwards as well. The light stayed on for 3 straight days, then I took it to the dealer. The dealer said it light wasn't on when they checked and couldn't find any new codes. They can't find anything wrong with the vehicle now. I have had the fuel system cleaned, Transmission flushed, K&N air filter, etc... to attempt to fix the sluggishness. What could be the issue?

check the fuel pressure , change the fuel filter, and then check the engine vacuum. If you have 15 " of vacuum at idle you may have a plugged converter........

2002 Cadillac Escalade AWD 91K, 6.0L. Yesterday my message center said "Service stability system." I left the car at my local repair garage and received the ECM diagnosis code C0286. When I looked up the code it says "C0286 - ABS indicator lamp Circuit Shorted to B+". Can you tell me what needs to be replaced if anything. My repair garage says it needs $1,100.00 to repair. I need a second opinion. Thanks for your help.

The vehicle will apply brake and slow itself 4-5 times from 55 mph down to 20-30 until it releases. Seems to be worse when it's cold. Total hazard. Should be a recall. Any advice?

how did you verify the ecbm was bad???? codes never identify bad parts, just failed systems.

you need to check all wiring.
i will look up the code and send you the diag tree for this.
