gear issues

i have a 2005 cadillac cts.....my car will start but i can not get it in gear....the key will not come out ignition....and the dashboard lights are completely out...

The best thing to check, would be a diagnostic system check for codes. Powertrain codes that are provided through a code reader(in most cases) are probably not going to reveal anything that may be pertinent. There are several modules incorporated in the shift lock system. Can you hear any clicking in the center console when the brake pedal is applied. I suspect you have a switch or solenoid type problem, but that is just suspicion.
