2004 Volvo XC90 loud noise

while driving today the truck began to make a loud noise, like a tractor. I am afraid to drive it to the repair shop, what could cause such a awful loud sound? It runs fine it's just LOUD!!!! Maybe the muffler, but I didnt run over anything. There is nothing hanging under it, there are no lose hoses under the hood.

You should have it towd in to have it checked out. If this is a 5 cylinder turbo then the header pipe may have separated from the catalytic converter. If this is a V8 most probable cause will be a bad balance shaft bearing. The repair would require replacing the balance shaft with new bearings and drilling a drain hole for the rear bearing.
