what is the normal voltage on the battery when my engine is running?

The voltage should be in the 13.5-14.5 range

Some cars have a lower charging voltage @ idle but if you tap the gas thay will jump up into range

14.6 at idle

if it's low you need the cable that runs to the starter if the alt tests okay. common problem on some touaregs-v6 and v8
