6 months ago put on 4 new tires. Within the last month I have had: the front rotors replaced, full brake job, brake light replaced, oil change with new filters and a full detail. The problem is this popping noise. It seems to be come from the front, drivers side maybe. Doesn't pop when I turn the wheel, hit a bump or when I am in neutral. It only pops if I accelerate hard or am going up a hill. The harder the pull the more frequent the popping. The car runs great. I have never had any issues. No vibrations or shaking. Note: when I had the rotors and brakes done the mechanic said that, "the right front caliper is missing a spring clamp. I usually have some laying around but I don't right now. I have called around and no one seems to have one. It is just a safety feature and shouldn't cause any problems but if you bring your car back in, I will put it on for you." Any ideas on what the problem is? Please help

Ok, it started as an intermittent sound about a month ago. It is a rattling/clicking/popping sound that starts when moving at low speeds. It sounds like it is coming from the drivers sound. Sound is in time with rotation of the tires. Stops once I get to higher speeds. It now happens every time I drive, I'm surprised when it doesn't do it. It has gotten louder and more pronounced.HELP!!! Its so obnoxious.

Could be a bad CV axle or hub bearing. I would get it checked out ASAP.

Unless it is on the passenger side and the sound is distorted, i hope not. I had the cv boot replaced on the drivers side, and the mechanic said everything in there looked fine. It was regreased and the whole bit. Is there any possibility of it being anything else. Its not constant driving at low speeds, still intermittent, just happens every time i drive. Oh, it gets louder when i brake to a stop.

So, it is my u joints. They are now squeaking.a squeak with every rotation. How worried should I be about driving it around? Particularly, on the freeway....

I have a problem with my 4Runner, it will pop out of first gear, if I hold the stick with some pressure I can keep it in gear but it is not easy, all other gears work just fine. I hope it is an easy fix? I have been told everything from just a bushing to a new tranny. Hope you can steer me in the right direction?

Thank you so much,
Jim

Hi jimaard,

When a gear cannot hold itself, most probably the synchromesh gear and hub is worn.
It could also be excessive clearance (a loose lock nut) or worn bearing on mainshaft.
Whatever causing your problem requires stripping the trans.
