Turn signal flasher location

HAZARD WARNING SWITCH REPLACEMENT - ON VEHICLE REMOVAL PROCEDURE

Remove the center air louver deflector. Refer to Air Deflector Louver Replacement - Center Vent. Remove the instrument panel cluster. Remove the hazard warning switch bezel from the instrument panel using a small-flat bladed tool to release the retainers.

Remove the left side bolt from the hazard warning switch through the instrument panel cluster pocket.

Remove the right side and center lower bolts from the hazard warning switch through the center air louver deflector pocket.

Reposition the hazard warning switch from the instrument panel to access the electrical connector.

Disconnect the electrical connectors from the hazard warning switch. Remove the hazard warning switch from instrument panel.

Where is turn signal flasher unit and how do I replace it?

If you have not found it it should be a part of your hazards button. It should be one assembly. You will have to take the center vent out.

Where is the turn signal flasher located?

Behind center of instrument panel.

1. From previous questions, is this a problem with the turn signal flasher unit which is part of the hazards button that needs to be replaced. It should be one assembly. You'll have to take the center vent out.

.2. How long and complicated is this procedure. Do I need to get the work done by an (expensive) GM mechanic, or can I take it to a backyard mechanic?

3. Can the part be purchased by any generic auto parts store, or do I have to go to GM to get it.

The part that activates the turn signal flashers. Currently it happens non frequently.

It sounds more like a short then the switch itself. I would pull the cover off the steering console and check for any lose connections. Also check the terminals on the turn switch.

When I checked my Haynes manual about the steering console. it mentioned the air bag.

Must I deactivate it before pulling off the cover (which I believe is in the engine compartment)?

If so, this sounds like something someone with limited mechanical knowledge and tools like myself should not be doing - correct?

Else, can I just unscrew the bolts to take the cover off and check for loose connections?

REMOVAL PROCEDURE
Remove the hazard warning switch bezel from the Instrument Panel (IP) using a small-flat bladed tool to release the retainers.
Remove the IP center air outlet.
Remove the IP cluster.
Remove the left side bolt from the hazard warning switch through the instrument panel cluster pocket.
Remove the right side and center lower bolts from the hazard warning switch through the center air outlet opening.
Reposition the hazard warning switch to the center air outlet opening.
Disconnect the electrical connectors from the hazard warning switch.
Remove the hazard warning switch from the IP.

2003 Oldsmobile Alero 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

I can't find the flasher unit on this car. I have removed the lower dash covers and also the gage surrond and still can't locate it

Look under the steering column, above the brake pedal. There might be a panel with one screw. Unscrew the panel and on back of panel, there should be a diagram. This will tell you where the signal/4-way flasher relay is located.

The flasher is all part of the hazard switch up on the dash.

All bulbs good. Signals all work fine when headlights off. Have replaced hazard flasher twice.

You're describing the classic symptoms of a bad ground circuit. Signal lamp operation is different with the tail lights turned on or off. There's two clues you might be able to observe that will verify this. The first is if you look closely, you'll see the rear lights are not as bright as they should be. The second clue might not work here since both rear sides are affected, but turn on the left turn signal, then while it is flashing, remove the right rear signal bulb(s). If the left side stops lighting up when the right bulbs are unplugged, it is because the ground circuit on the left side is broken. Current goes through the left signal bulb's filament, then can't find a path to ground, but it doubles back through the smaller tail light filament, then over to the tail light filament on the right side, then finds an alternate path to ground on that side. You actually have three filaments in series, which is why the bulbs aren't full brightness.

If you can reach the terminals in the bulb's socket, you can take voltage measurements there too. Those readings are only valid when the bulb is installed, so you have to be able to get the meter's probe in there next to the terminals. With the circuits turned on, two of the four terminals on the common 3057 bulb must always have 0.0 volts. The other two will have 12 volts when they're turned on. You don't even have to concern yourself with which terminal is which for now. If you find roughly four to six volts on any terminal, that is proof the ground circuit has a break in it.

Where is the flasher relay located on a 01 Olds Alero

The flasher is integrated into the hazard flasher/switch. Here is a diagram (below) that show its location and how to change it.

Pull radio Trim Panel/facade away from dash to access Hazard switch. Taking the air vent out is another way of accessing it.

A Common problem is the flasher timer will click like the turn signals are on but the turn lever is in the neutral position.

Before condemning the Hazard switch/timer, first remove steering column cover to access Turn signal switch.

Remove the 4 wire connector on top of switch.

If Clicking stops then replace or disassemble switch to clean contacts.

The contacts wear and cause a fine copper connection and produce a
situation as if the switch was activated.

My 2002 Olds will ,at times, click quickly while I'm driving. This clicking sound is the same sound that is made when the turn signal are on. I also happens when directly after I have used the turn signals. I have replaced all of the bulbs my self and the problem continues. I believe it is the turn signal relay. My only problem is I don't know where it is. Where can I locate my turn signal relay on my car?

It is integrated into the hazard button on the dash. You can get to it by removing the shroud surrounding the speed gauge.

I have mazda6 2008 and when I turn light and use right signal ,start hazard light after when I turn off car counting flashing .

Your vehicle does not have a traditional flasher relay but this is not an uncommon issue. The BCM is what controls the turn signals and the flasher and when the BCM fails internally, the lights at odd when using the turn signals.

If it were me, I would replace the BCM and then go from there.
