9 months ago, I used an Actron scanner to detect the crankshaft sensor code, which I replaced successfully. The car has been running great ever since. I recently went to smog it and they said the OBD would not link to their scanner so it can't be smogged until I fix it. My Actron is also now showing "link error." The strange thing is that it does link at times, but usually it won't. It did link the night I returned from a 100 mile trip, and again the next morning. But when I drove it straight to the smog station it was already reading "link error" (both on my Actron and on the smog guy's scanner) when I got there. Can't figure out the off again on again problem. The few times it has linked, it reads all the smog IM's "ready" and shows no repair codes.

Have you checked the wiring to the port?
