i have a 2004 mitsubishi galant with 150k Why would my tranny fluid be a brownish color and smell like oil?miles. used to run and drive perfect then all of a sudden when i drive it likes to jump a lot and yesterday when i started the car and went to shift into drive/reverse it wouldn't engage it was like it stayed in N but thankfully park would work. i just want to know what the problem is so i can fix it. i have talked to many mechanics and know one seems to know what it could be. i love my car and don't want to get rid of it.

Try changing the fluid and filter if it continues -bring it in and have it further checked out-
