I replaced my clutch 6 months ago and now my car won't go into gear when I stop or even down shift. If I stop and go into neutral it literally won't go into first gear an when I shift an it does go into gear it is a tough shift. Sometimes I have to turn the car off and out it into first gear and then restart it.

If its physically going into gear but wont move when you let out the clutch whats left besides the the clutch? The clutch is always on untill the clutch hydralics releases it.You said it wasnt right since your son drove it so maybe something happened when he was driving it?

Hi,

The idea that it will shift when the engine is off and not shift (or a hard shift) when the engine is running indicates it isn't releasing from the engine. The most common cause is either a low fluid level (clutch fluid), a faulty clutch master cylinder, or a bad slave cylinder.

Since the fluid for the clutch is held in the brake master cylinder, check it to make sure it is full. Next, if you look at pic 1, I circled the clutch master cylinder. Check to make sure there are no leaks or anything that seems damaged or faulty.

If you look at pic 2, it shows the slave cylinder which will be mounted on the transmission. Check to see if there are any leaks there as well.

Check those two things and let me know what you find.

Take care,
Joe
