Hi there! I had been plagued with engine issues for quite some time [loss of power at lower speeds, stumble and hesitation, rough idle, misfire at freeway speeds, improper shift timing] and spent a lot of money on fuel system cleaners and engine restore products, to no avail. Finally got a new fuel filter installed, and now the engine runs beautifully. Instant throttle response, consistent pressure, even power distribution throughout RPM ranges, much smoother idle, and engine noise on acceleration is all but gone.

Here's my question: would it be ok to change out the fuel filter?

The filter on this engine is part of the pump. So I suspect this is what you meant about changing it out.

I would confirm this is an issue by checking the pressure and finding out if the pressure is low causing the hesitation.

Here is a guide that will help with this:

Plus, here is a guide that will give detail on how to change out the pump as well:

Lastly below is the information on the filter and how to change the pump.

Please let us know if you have other questions. Thanks
