My Amanti wont start it cranks no start . I have check plugs change fuel pump, check fuel pump relay ,check coils good spark very strong. It would try to start but it would die out. If I squirt a little starting fluid into throttle body it would start up and run-until it burns off. This only happen after I stop and put gas in my car it was running fine before . I stop turn car off put in gas try to start very hard engine running with now power .I started to drive home and it got better and run nice after a few minutes. I parked in the driveway and it would not start for three days now. Run code check it is giving me a code for the MAF sensor could this prevent the car from starting? I thought it was the CPS but no codes for that can you shed some light. Cpttrevor

A problem with the throttle by wire system can cause the car to go in limp mode and if the fault is still detected when you go to start it can cause it to not start. They dont want you driving around with a problem with the throttle by wire system.

i have check all the things you told me too. Here are the readings in resistance APS1 Pin 7 and 8 = 5.30 ohms. APS 2 Pin1 and 2 =4.98 ohms. Stepping on accelerator to monitor signal for APS 1 and 2 with Ignition off all test were made with ignition off. Without stepping no voltage signal in either one or two. Stepping on the accelerator still no voltage signal in either one or two APS. What is the EEPROM and where is it located? Could these results mean a bad ECM? I took it out and before I try to get another one let me know if my results is indicative of a bad computer module. Thank you Cpttrevor

Replace the mass air flow sensor then clear the codes and go drive the car and see what codes come back.Without app singals the throttle body shouldnt be working too good.

Your supposed to use a scan tool to monitor that feed back voltage thats why they dont list wire colors terminals etc.

I used a multimeter per your instructions on Oct 6,I don't have a scan tool I just have OBD11 code scanner. I use the multimeter on OHMS and then volts is this wrong? I put the MAF sensor back in my car and tried to start it would not it just crank but won't start.Cpttrevor

Yes that would be wrong when they say monitor the voltage and do not give instructions on using the multi meter to do that they are talking about using a scan tool to do that. Also if it starts with a mass air flow from another car but not your car i would say that you have a bad mass air flow sensor.Unfornately when diagnosing a car or fixing a car there a tools you just need to perform the diagnosing and repair.Even i have to buy tools to do that.

no you misunderstood I took the MAF from my car and put in another car and the other car started right up.Put it back in my car and the same crank but no start. the only scan tool I have is the OBD11 code scanner.

You will need a scan tool that can monitor live pedal position sensor voltage.Sorry i did miss understand i thought a different mass airflow sensor started the engine up.

So have you checked actual fuel pressure and for a injector pulse?

out in a new fuel pump and if I squirt starting fluid into throttle body the car starts and run for a while and accelerates like normal and then stop as soon as fluid is burnt off. I keep getting the same code for TPS sensor. So I loosen the screws and moved it slightly and the car started and ran briefly. I ordered a new TPS and tomorrow I would replaced the original. I am putting my trust in the scanner. Cpttrevor

Like i have stated why? Can the throttle system like the motor APS the ETS motor and the ETS control unit be bad and not giving the signal to the throttle to allow the car to start? Cpttrevor

I know it goes into limp mode when a failure is detected so it limits throttle opening greatly. If its like a gm car if it detects that failure next key cycle it wont start. The kia repair info i have isnt ver very detailed.Let me see if there is a another moderator on here that knows these kias well.

On the scan tool does the tps sensor show .3-1.0 volts without touching the gas pedal? The while holding it to the floor it should read 4.2-4.8 volts?

I justed talked to the kia expert and he said the same thing i told you if the injectors are working and there is good fuel pressure makes no sense why it will start on a prime but not start otherwise. So please check what i just asked you to check rught before your last reply of waiting for me to talk to the expert.

The ignition switch should be in the on position and were not using a multi meter were you using a scan tool to read the voltage.

You need use a scan tool thats what the trouble tree i gave you has you use.Because if its not reading correctly at the computer how would you even know it?Also i just dont know how if the injectors are working and we have the correct fuel pressure how it can start and run on a prime? That makes no sense really to me.

I agree we have injectors firing gas spark and the throttle plate is opening when you attempt to start so it is getting a signal but still would only start if I squirt starter fluid into throttle body and runs very good and smooth until burns off. This only happen after I got gas and I am draining tank and putting fresh gas in possibly I have water or too much alcohol or ethanol in the gas. I am doing this today before anything else because this does not make sense I have been working on cars for years and gas spark air and correct computer signal car should start I would let you know Cpttrevor
