what could be the most likely causes, and if it is a blown head gasket,
how expensive could that be?

Thanks,

if one cylinder is lower than the other, it could be a valve burnt, head gasket, or broken ring or broken piston. it depends on how low it was. normally 20% is the deciding factor.

then it can be any of the things i've mentioned with the exception of the broken piston/broken ring. Also normally if one cylinder like #3 was low then with a head gasket #5 could be as well.
