Hello. I have a 2004 Honda Odyssey....I just recently took it to Honda and they couldn't find a problem...The first time the car acted up was when I had got stuck in the snow after our major snow storm when I had been stepping on the gas while spinning the tires and then trying again in reverse.....Sometimes when the car is in park, the RPM's will rev up to about 1 1/2 and then drop, rev and then drop repeatedly....for no appearant reason....Recently it has started acting a little funny while driving....Say I'm driving and accelerating the gears seem to shift fine, but if I back off the gas pedal the RPM needle will drop and kind of flop up and down for a few seconds...Honda guessed it was either the Idle Air Control or the Throttle Body....They cleaned a whole bunch of carbon off the idle air control and thought that might fix the problem, but it seems to be getting worse....How do I know which is causing the problem? Thank you!

If you don't have a vacuum leak, it is the idle air control valve acting up. It might have to be replaced, if cleaning it didn't help.

Did you check the PCV Valve?
It my have degraded in the snow/cold and probably causes the revving when shaken. It may be the culprit.

This same problem happened to my 2003 Odyssey a couple of months ago (exact same symptoms). Replacing the IAC valve fixed it (paid $130 for the part). I tried cleaning it first and that didn't work. Honda should have tried replacing it after cleaning it didn't work, did they?
