the car shakes a lot when idle. it only gives 13.6 mpg. engine light is on. squeaky belt. Funny smell on start-up. headlights blink when idle.

How long since the engine was tuned up? Worn spark plugs are the most likely suspect. Have you had the diagnostic fault codes read and recorded? The people at many auto parts stores will do that for you for free.
